Ages Ago I Was Set Up
This meditation is based on a passage for December 27, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Proverbs 8:22-30
Reflection and Question: The Gospel of John starts this way, “In the beginning was the Word.” Then the whole book shows us how Jesus, through teaching and signs, is the Word. As this passage indicates, this was not a new idea for Israel. Proverbs here echoes John, “The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,” or probably it is better to say that John echoes this poetry, a beautiful extended description of Lady Wisdom. I cherish the Biblical approach that entwines wisdom and Jesus Christ, hinting at the Trinity. How do you make sense of the Trinity: Three in One and One in Three?
Prayer: Eternal Jesus, we thank You that You became flesh and dwelt among us. And we pause in awe that You were also set up ages ago, that You were there when the heavens were established and You are God’s daily delight. We listen for You. Amen.
